PHASE I

ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT.

Through early orthodontic screening you will be giving your child the best opportunity for a healthy, beautiful smile and prevent future jaw surgery and the extraction of permanent teeth.

Why do we have a Phase I  treatment plan?

According to the American Association of Orthodontists:

  • Early treatment may prevent more serious problems from developing
  • Reduce the risk of trauma to teeth
  • Correct harmful oral habits
  • Improve appearance and self esteem
  • Guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position
  • Reduce the time and cost of future braces.

When is the best time to begin Phase I treatment?

  • Every child should get a free Phase I screening At about age 7 (the teenage years may be too late to prevent extraction of permanent teeth)

This treatment will develop the jaws to make room for all permanent teeth, improve over-bite, under-bite and facial profile.

What is Phase I treatment?

Phase I treatment, in most cases, involves either a removable or fixed appliance, which the child will wear for about 1-1 ½ years, based on their specific diagnosis.

PHASE II

ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT.

Why do we have a Phase II treatment plan?

A Phase II treatment plan is initiated to:

  • Straighten and align teeth
  • Create a better environment for easier cleaning and maintaining of the teeth in order for them to last a lifetime.
  • Create a healthy self image with a beautiful smile
  • Prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and even tooth lose.

When is the best time to begin Phase II treatment?

  • After Phase I treatment, around age 12-13 or older.
  • When an orthodontic problem arises

What is Phase II treatment?

  • Phase II treatment involves some form of braces. We offer stainless steel and clear “translucent” braces, NEVER USING RECYCLED BRACES. We use High Quality Titanium memory wires. Also we are certified to offer invisalign to our patients.
  • The braces are worn, on average, between 12-18 months.
  • After the braces are removed there is a time of retention. Choices of retainers are: Hawley multicolor, clear invisilign type and fixed permanent.

AFTER...

Common Orthodontic Problems.

PROTRUSION OF UPPER FRONT TEETH:

This type of bite can result from the upper teeth being too far forward or the lower teeth being too far back.

OVERBITE:

The upper front teeth cover too much of the lower front teeth.

CROSSBITE:

This is when the upper teeth fit inside the lower teeth.  Often times, we see unfavorable jaw growth and excessive tooth wear with untreated cross bites.

OPENBITE:

The upper and lower front teeth do not overlap.  We often see habits and tongue thrusting with this bite.  Proper chewing is definitely affected.

CROWDING:

This occurs when teeth do not have enough room to erupt.  Appropriate expansion can correct crowding, most times without tooth removal.

SPACING:

Most of the time, spacing is an aesthetic concern, but sometimes spacing can mean missing teeth.

DENTAL MIDLINES NOT MATCHED:

This usually indicates that the back bite does not match properly.  Function may be negatively affected by this type of malocclusion.
