LOCAL ORTHODONTIST HELPS CHILDREN PREVENT SPORT INJURIES
April is National Facial Protection Month
San Juan Capistrano –. Mark Sayed Orthodontics is doing their part to help children playing organized sports help reduce the risk of oral injuries. The entire month of April Dr. Sayed will be providing mouth sports guards for free.
A child’s mouth and face can be easily injured if the proper precautions are not used while playing sports. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease control, more than half of the 7 million sports and recreation-related injuries are sustained by youth as young as age 5. Last year, the National Youth Sports Safety Foundation forecasted that more than 3 million teeth would be knocked out in youth sporting events-yet in a survey commissioned by the American Association of Orthodontists( AAO), 67% of parents admitted that their child does not wear a mouth guard during organized sports.
The AAO found that 84% of children do not wear mouth guards while playing organized sports because they are not required to wear them, even though they are required to wear other protective materials such as helmet and shoulder pads. Mouth guards can be one of the lease expensive pieces of protective equipment available. Not only do mouth guards save teeth, they help protect jaws. Children wearing braces have a slightly higher risk of oral injuries. An Orthodontist can recommend the best mouth guard for an athlete who wears braces.
“Each year I see a significant number of children with dental injuries that resulted from failure to wear a mouth guard,” said Dr. Mark Sayed orthodontist in San Juan Capistrano. Dr. Sayed encourages parents and coaches to require mouth guards as part of a child’s uniform-for every practice and every game, that is why he is offering them at not cost.

First let me point out the fact that we live in Murrieta. We moved from Rancho Santa Margarita 9 years ago where I had taken my, then 3 month old, son to Dr. Jon Sayed Pediatric Dentist. After moving, we continued to visit Dr. Jon and eventually were referred to Dr. Mark. My son loved Dr. Jon for his teeth cleaning (very gentle) so why not try his brother for braces?
Dr. Mark conducted a thorough examination and put together a comprehensive plan for the years ahead and my son’s growing mouth. In first grade my son was fitted for a pallet expander (sounds worse than it is) and, because he was so young, Dr. Mark gave him a removable appliance so that he could eat properly. After 4 years of using that appliance my son sat patiently on Valentine’s day, 2011 to have braces put on.
Dr. Mark had assured me & my husband that the initial investment of time and money for the expander would mean that our son would only POSSIBLY need braces but, if he DID get them it would be only for a year or so. I can very happily say that in June of 2012 the braces came off.
Unlike many of our son’s friends who had braces when they were very young only to have them reapplied again when adult teath appeared, or have had them for several years. We are SO pleased that our son’s teeth and bite are absolutely perfect! The charges were fair and never increased, and the appointments were on time and easily made/changed. Sean, at the front desk, is extremely friendly and professional as are the assistants, etc.
We completely trusted Dr. Mark and were absolutely correct to do so! He is honest, funny, friendly, professional, and truly a joy to visit. Having his office to go to made the trips and money spent very easy to handle. There are MANY Orthontists in my area but I felt confident going to Dr. Mark and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

He and his staff are well trained, professional, and all ’round nice people. Upon your arrival to the office your greeted like long time friends. Shawn, the office manager who’s been there for years, has a professional, polite and friendly disposition.
The back office staff is caring and deliver orthodontic treatment with a gentle touch.
Dr. Sayed is not happy unless his patients are happy. Everything is explained prior to treatment and all questions are answered. The office decor is chic, modern and clean. To go to any other orthodontist would be accepting second best.
